Superb Succulents and Preparing for the Upcoming People’s Choice Show

Some of the most wonderful and spectacular plants can be seen at our shows. These are the plants that make the show special and that draw people in. And in many cases, they are the reason we became interested in the world of succulents.

September’s program will feature photographs of many of the superb succulents from our club’s shows, as well as highlights of other shows that most members may not have the opportunity to enjoy, such Sacramento, Fresno, and the CSSA show at the Huntington. We will showcase a wide variety of superb succulents in a wide variety of genera and discuss what makes them so special. We will also focus on our upcoming show, and how you can get YOUR special plant ready to dazzle.

Former Show Chair Jaan Lepson will discuss the People’s Choice in general and this year’s prize categories in particular, highlighting previous winners. He will show examples that won and some that did not, and discuss possible reasons why. Our resident artist Kathi Cambiano and Sales Chair Peter Beiersdorfer will demonstrate potting up plants for the show and how to make them appealing to a wide audience. Props are allowed!

In addition, Peter and Jaan will bring in plants for sale, many of which are not the “cookie-cutter” cacti and succulents most often seen at the sales.
