BOARD OF DIRECTORS

January 8, 2006

CSSSJ

Call to Order by President Bill Munkacsy at the Prusch Park Meeting Hall at 10:45 A.M.

LAST MONTH'S MINUTES for the Board of Directors Meeting on November 6, 2005 were approved.

TREASURER: The current bank account balance is $5,330.98. The Christmas party auction and expenses are included. The club's taxes to the State Board of Equalization for last April and September were paid. A $400 donation from our club was made to Buchser School for using their facility for last year's Show and Sale. Our 2006 Garden Club yearly insurance was paid.

MEMBERSHIP: 59 members have renewed for 2006.

HOSPITALITY: Bill Kurtz continues to help us out.

The February PROGRAM will be a hands-on workshop on how to stage plants for show presentation.

LIBRARY: Nothing new to report.

AFFILIATE: A CSSA survey was passed around, and collected from our membership. It contained feedback for the CSSA on their journal and our areas of interest. A motion was proposed and approved to donate $100 to the CSSA for their color fund, research, and for our club's membership renewal.

MINI SHOW: Linda introduced a formalized set of rules to govern this activity, and will implement it by this February.

ANNUAL SHOW: The dates for the 2006 Show and Sale are April 1 - 2. There was discussion on how to better advertise our event, primarily through newspaper ads and Internet sites, such as Craig's List. It was noted that the garden ads in the San Jose Mercury News are not very big anymore, and may be due to the Internet competition for news and event reporting.

BY-LAWS: Nothing new to report.

OLD BUSINESS:

• A good idea was suggested to include advertisements for our club's growers on the last page of our courier. Maybe, even to open up a personal want ads page. This might generate some enthusiasm from our members to exchange plants they are looking for, are giving away, or selling.
• Our club has a number of trophy and ribbon prizes that are no longer being used, which we would like to part with. They could either be donated to the CSSA, donated to Children's clubs as awards, cut-out and remounted, or photographed and put on our club's web-site as a tribute to the names contained on them. It was suggested to take the trophies to the Goodwill. This should be noted in our courier prior to happening.
• Bill Kurtz has several boxes of old CSSSJ couriers and a large wooden bookshelf that he would like to find a new home for.
• It was recommended that we split up our monthly programs into smaller multiple sections, so we can have more variety, and possibly perk up our membership interest.
• Tony Bassano wants to resign his position. We are looking for a new Treasurer.
• We are looking for someone to take over the Hospitality responsibilities.

NEW BUSINESS:

• A motion was proposed and approved to honor Rowena Southwell, and Carole and Sam Keeton with life membership to our club. Bravo and a hearty thanks for their dedication!!!
• Bill Gingrass has stepped down as our club's web-master. Rich Kroll, our newsletter editor, will now be performing this function. Thank you, Rich!! A motion was proposed and approved to provide the necessary resources and funds to improve and further develop our website.
• Linda brought in her sample 2006 CSSSJ calendar. She needs the general monthly meeting dates confirmed, so she can have them highlighted.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:10 P.M.

The next Board meeting will be on February 5, at the Prusch Park Meeting Hall at 10:30 A.M.
