LAST MONTH’S MINUTES for the Board of Directors Meeting on September 11, 2005 were approved.

TREASURER: The current bank account balance is $7,371 as of September 30, 2005. We are still waiting for the custodial charges from our show and sale. A letter was drafted and signed by the Board members to the American Express Credit Card Company, requesting to terminate our club’s account with them. We keep incurring a $5.00 a month fee for services that we do not use.

MEMBERSHIP: We have 1 new member, bringing our membership up to 91 people. An idea was suggested to increase the cost of basic and family membership from $15/$20 per year to $20/$25 with the monthly courier being sent on-line, and $25/$30 with the monthly courier being sent as a hard copy through the U.S mail. We will first need to check the feasibility of this with our newsletter editor, Rich Kroll.

HOSPITALITY: Nothing new to report.

The November PROGRAM will be a presentation by Paul Heiple on Mesembryanthemums.

LIBRARY:  A motion was proposed and approved to spend the $150 from our anonymous donor on new books for our library. Bill Kurtz has identified several books from his recent trip to the CSSA convention in Scottsdale, Arizona last August.

AFFILIATE:  Nothing new to report.

MINI SHOW:  Nothing new to report.

ANNUAL SHOW:  Tony Bassano is working on the final fiscal information for the Show and Sale. We still need the custodial charges. A great idea was suggested to have a section for kids, where our members can show them how to pot plants. We also need to have a new membership information table set up next year. Due to low Sunday turnouts over the years, a motion was proposed and approved to abbreviate the day by having it start at 10:00 AM and ending at 4:00 PM. We will need to change our flyers to reflect this new time. To increase excitement and participation from the public, a suggestion was made to either give a small plant, or a $5.00 coupon with each $50 spent.

BY-LAWS:  Nothing new to report.

OLD BUSINESS:

§       A good idea was suggested to include advertisements for our club’s growers on the last page of our courier. Maybe, even to open up a personal want ads page. This might generate some enthusiasm from our members to exchange plants they are looking for, are giving away, or selling.

§       Our club has a number of trophy and ribbon prizes that are no longer being used, which we would like to part with. They could either be donated to the CSSA, donated to Children’s clubs as awards, cut-out and remounted, or photographed and put on our club’s web-site as a tribute to the names contained on them. It was suggested to take the trophies to the Goodwill. This should be noted in our courier prior to happening.

§       Bill Kurtz has several boxes of old CSSSJ couriers and a large wooden bookshelf that he would like to find a new home for.

§       It was recommended that we split up our monthly programs into smaller multiple sections, so we can have more variety, and possibly perk up our membership interest.

§       Tony Bassano wants to resign his position. We are looking for a new Treasurer.

§       We are looking for someone to take over the Hospitality responsibilities.

NEW BUSINESS:

§       Rowena Southwell and Wes Briggs, respectively, have sold their nursery businesses to fellow grower Woody Minnich. Rowena has contributed extensively to our club over the years. We wish them well in their future endeavors.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 A.M.

The next Board meeting will be on November 6, 2005, at the Prusch Park Meeting Hall at

10:30 A.M.
