LAST MONTH’S MINUTES for the Board of Directors Meeting on March 2, 2008 were approved.

TREASURER: The balance as of May 4, 2008 is approximately $13,500

MEMBERSHIP: Two new members this month. With renewals, the total membership is now 90 people.

HOSPITALITY: Judy has volunteered to take care of the hospitalities until this June. Thanks Judy!!

The May PROGRAM will be a presentation on Bromeliads by club member, Roger Lane. A motion was proposed and approved to pay Roger $50 for being the guest speaker. The June PROGRAM will be a tour of the Arizona Gardens at Stanford by Chief Groundskeeper, Herb Fong.

LIBRARY: A new book, "Pachyforms II, Bonsai Succulents", was donated to our club by its authors, Rudy Lime and Philippe de Vosjoli.

AFFILIATE:
  • CSSA is putting out their past 70 years of journals on a CD, starting from 1929. Our club may want to acquire a copy of it for our library.
  • We did not get our April Show and Sale advertised in the CSSA journal for the second year in a row.

GUADALUPE PARK GARDEN is doing well. Tony Bassano has been taking care of our garden plot. He is looking for volunteers to help him maintain it.

MINI SHOW: The mini-shows are back in place for 2008. Results will be published in the courier. We’ve had positive feedback that people like sharing their stories!

SPRING SHOW: April 12-13 at Buchser School in Santa Clara went very well. We did not fill up all the vendor tables this year, though, but the overall profit was good.
  • There was a vendor issue with a member piggy-backing off the bar-code of another, and then trying to reconcile the cash register receipts later on. It has been since resolved.
  • Of the 650 postcards that Chuck Breese sent out to advertise the Show, 71 of those cards were redeemed for their dollar off coupon. Others said they forgot their coupon. The postcards were moderately successful in getting the word out about the Show.
  • A motion was proposed and approved to donate $300 to the Buchser School science department in appreciation for letting us use their facilities.

FALL SHOW: October 4 & 5 for the Fall Show and Sale. This will be a People’s Choice Show.

BY-LAWS: Linda and Sandy have volunteered to spearhead the updating of our Operating Procedures and our By-Laws this calendar year.

OLD BUSINESS:
  • Sandy had the 2008 rosters printed, and handed them out during the April Show and Sale and the May meeting.
  • The 2008 Guadalupe Gardens Show on April 26 went well. Tony Bassano coordinated all the activities.

NEW BUSINESS:
  • We need to make reservations at Harry’s Hoffbrau for our December party.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:15 P.M.

The next meeting will be on July 13, 2008, at the Prusch Park Meeting Hall at 10:30 A.M.
